Read, Write, Inc – Phonics Schemes

At Burnhope Primary School, phonics is taught through the use of the Read, Write, Inc. (RWInc.) Programme. Children are assessed regularly, and grouped according to the sounds they know, and their level of fluency.

 

Reading Schemes

At Burnhope Primary School we use a range of reading schemes to provide a breadth of different types of book.

Books are banded according to the book band colours. Books used include those from:

Bug Club

The children have access to a programme called Bug Club. By logging on to their accounts, children can read and listen to books that are on their reading book band. They will be prompted to answer questions about what they are reading, and feedback is sent to your child’s teacher. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you would like any further information. Children from Y1-Y4 generally access this programme which can be used from home.

Reading Plus

Children from Y4-6 have access to Reading Plus, again this is an online resource which can be access from home or in school. Built on decades of research, Reading Plus assesses efficiency, and also measures and increases motivation and comprehension. The program allows students to practice at their own pace and uses adaptive technology in a truly meaningful way.
